If you’re not familiar, Songkran is Thailand’s New Year celebration… and it’s basically a massive country-wide water festival. (So fun, by the way!)
What surprised me most though wasn’t the festival itself, it was the brands.
From Netflix to Coca-Cola, there were so many US-based companies showing up with full pop-ups, interactive booths, and free product giveaways woven right into the celebration.
But it didn’t feel random or forced. It felt super intentional. It was such a good reminder that understanding your audience goes so much deeper than age, gender, or location.
These brands weren’t just targeting consumers in Thailand, they were showing up within a meaningful cultural moment. When a brand acknowledges and participates in a cultural tradition in a way that feels respectful and relevant, it builds trust fast. It shows awareness, effort, and genuine interest in the community you’re trying to reach.
If you’re thinking about how to connect with your audience in a stronger way, this is your reminder to zoom out. Look at what matters to them culturally, not just statistically.
