In the last five years, with social media platforms completely dominating the marketing landscape, brands have been increasingly enticed by trends that ultimately only offer short-term benefits – if any benefit at all.
Brands see what their competitors are doing, experience a bit of FOMO, and then rapidly pivot their resources to try the next flashy thing in the hopes of it driving massive results. But the results don’t come.
I believe our culture further drives this desire for immediate outcomes over long-term strategy, causing brands to neglect the core marketing principles that actually move the needle.
In his new book, This is Strategy, marketing visionary Seth Godin perfectly summarizes this exact trap: “It’s easy to fall in love with how clever we are, how fast we’re sure we’re going to change things and how easy it might be. But the reality is that real change comes from culture and expectations and systems.”
So, what am I predicting will come next year and beyond?
Here is my hot take…
We’re at a point in time where the health brands that successfully avoid the trap of the “shiny new platform” or growth hack are the brands that will truly invest in their longevity while protecting their profit margins. We are going to see successful brands returning to the core foundational questions that matter most:
- Who do we want to be?
- Who do we want to change?
- What’s stopping us from doing that?
When we apply those strategic questions to the modern marketing landscape, here are a few massive shifts we’re predicting for 2027:
#1: Inauthentic influencer marketing in the health space will fade away.
People can see right through the smoke and mirrors, and they are craving substance over flash. According to a recent Influencer Statistics report from PartnerCentric, while influencer marketing as a whole still drives revenue, 72% of Americans now believe that standard “influencer culture” is not healthy.
Brands are going to wake up to the fact that many influencer campaigns – especially those created without a real, authentic connection to the product – simply don’t drive real revenue results, despite the hefty price tag.
- The Takeaway: Evaluate your influencer campaigns with intense scrutiny. Are they driving real results for your business, or are they just a really fast way to spend a large chunk of your budget? If top-of-funnel (TOFU) awareness is your only goal, traditional influencer marketing might still have a place. But if you want conversions, you need a different strategy.
#2: A massive shift toward accredited experts
As the traditional influencer fades, real medical professionals, credentialed fitness instructors, and true health experts will take the stage.
Credentialed experts are the new-age influencers. Health-related searches continue to surge, and consumers are actively seeking vetted, educational guidance over purely aesthetic wellness content. In fact, a recent Demandforce report on healthcare marketing trends noted that while trust in general social media personalities is wildly fluctuating, patients still consider their doctor or medical provider as their most trusted source of health information.
Healthcare influencers – actual credentialed providers like Dr. Amen, Dr. Hyman, Layne Norton and Dr. Gabrielle Lyon – will increasingly outperform lifestyle influencers in engagement and conversion because their recommendations carry real, verifiable weight.
- The Takeaway: Building your platform as a true, credentialed expert in your field will matter more than ever. Focus on education and root-cause solutions to build the trust buyers need to actually make a purchase.
#3: Your brand (and your values) matter more than ever
As nearly all verticals continue to see increasing competition, positioning becomes incredibly challenging. Almost every spot in the market feels like it’s already ‘claimed’ by another brand. Moving forward, your unique values, culture, and commitments will be the driving force in brand selection and retention.
And make no mistake – health and wellness brands will be held to an even higher standard.
According to a 2025 Branding Statistics report by Shapo, 84% of consumers agree that they buy from brands that share their personal values, and 64% actively prefer brands that prioritize social causes. The same report found that 65% of consumers say the behavior of a brand’s CEO and its employees directly influences their decision to buy.
Internal culture is no longer hidden from the consumer; it is a primary marketing asset. People don’t only care about how brands treat their customers, but also how they treat their teams, the environment, and their community. We’re waking up to the realities of big-brand horrors, giving smaller, authentic brands a massive opportunity to solidify their share of the market by simply being good.
- The Takeaway: Being good people, running a good business, and treating those around you with kindness is no longer just a nice-to-have. It is a competitive advantage.
The Final Word
Our lives and our businesses are a series of projects. We can choose to navigate them in a way that creates meaningful change. But as Godin reminds us, that change doesn’t happen overnight through a viral hack – it happens bit by bit, move by move, through strategy and systems.
