First things first: a few low-performing posts do not mean you’re shadowbanned.

What people call a “shadowban” usually means a platform is limiting your content’s distribution or making it ineligible for recommendations. But these days, you don’t necessarily have to guess.

Both Instagram and TikTok have tools that can tell you if there are issues affecting your account. Check your Account Status on Instagram or Account Check on TikTok to see if content has been flagged, restricted, or deemed ineligible for recommendations.

If everything looks good? Your content may simply be underperforming. (Bummer, I know.) Algorithms look at signals like watch time, engagement, and retention, and sometimes a post just doesn’t resonate. It happens!

The best way to avoid actual reach restrictions is to follow platform guidelines, pay attention to flagged content, and avoid repeatedly posting content the platform has already deemed ineligible for recommendations.

So before you panic and blame the algorithm, check your account status first. Sometimes you’re not shadowbanned. Sometimes a post just flopped!
