The MARKETING RX: The ChatGPT Trend Everyone Regrets
December 19, 2025

There’s a new year end trend making the rounds right now: “What was the craziest question I asked ChatGPT this year?”
It spread fast. And then it got complicated.
When trends backfire
THE BIG DOSE
What started as a fun, self reflective trend quickly turned into backlash. People began criticizing others AI overuse, questioning the value of the prompts being shared, and raising concerns about environmental impact. Almost overnight, the tone shifted from playful to polarizing.
For brands, this is a reminder that not every viral moment is worth chasing. While the trend worked because it tapped into identity and reflection, it lacked intention and guardrails. Without a clear purpose or value exchange, trends can turn on you just as quickly as they lift you up.
The takeaway heading into 2026 is simple. Trends are tools, not strategies. Before jumping in, brands should ask whether a moment aligns with their values, serves their audience, and adds something meaningful to the conversation.
