How To Get More Likes On Instagram

Nothing is more frustrating than spendings hours curating the perfect Instagram post and caption, just for it to get minimal likes and engagement. If you feel like your Instagram engagement has significantly dropped lately, you’re not alone.

Instagram’s algorithms are constantly changing, and it can be hard to keep up with the latest trends to ensure your content is high-performing. With the introduction of Instagram reels, engagement levels have declined for carousel, single-image, and in-feed video posts.

However, you don’t need to feel hopeless! There are plenty of ways that you can combat this and start improving your engagement on Instagram.

Step 1: Share More Reels

You know what they say, if you can’t beat them, join them! Instead of going against recent Instagram algorithm trends, embrace them! With the massive popularity of reels, incorporating 1-2 reels a month in your typical content can significantly increase your account’s reach and engagement.

If you’ve never made a video for social media before, don’t be intimidated. There are plenty of resources available online to help you create the perfect reel for your unique brand and audience.

Step 2. Put Keywords and Hashtags at The Heart of Your Strategy

You’ve surely heard it a million times, but hashtags and keywords do truly matter when it comes to your Instagram engagement. However, you need to know how to utilize them properly in order to see any type of improvement in your likes, comments, and views.

One of the most important things to remember when planning your keywords and hashtags is to pay attention to the popularity and number of posts, and to get specific.

For example, if you were to upload a photo of some delicious food, you may think about using the hashtags: #food #foodphotography, etc. However, when you take a look at these hashtags on Instagram, it’s easy to see just how overused they are. This will make it extremely difficult for your post to reach others under this hashtag.

If you were to get more specific with your hashtags, such as including the location, you’ll notice a much more reasonable number of posts, which can make it easier for your photo to gain visibility.

Hootsuite, a powerful social media tool, even offers a list of trending hashtags for 2022 to help you get started.

Step 3. Audit Your Followers and Remove Spam Accounts

While you may think that having a larger number of followers directly correlates to a higher rate of engagement, that is not actually the case. Having a handful of active followers who frequently engage with your content can make your account much more valuable than a page with a high volume of inactive or spam followers.

One way you can increase your engagement is by taking the time to go through your follower list and removing any spam accounts. This can make your insights much more accurate.

But, how do you know if an account is spam? There are a few tell-tale signs, including a lack of profile picture, little to no followers or accounts they are following, and no posts.

Step 4. Post When Your Audience Is Most Engaged

It seems that these days people are becoming more aware of their screen time, and making steps towards spending less time a day on social media. While this is great, it can obviously hurt your engagement levels. One way to combat this is to ensure you are posting when your audience is most active, to increase the likelihood that your post is seen and interacted with.

This can be monitored by switching your account to a business profile so that you gain the Instagram Insights feature. Insights will allow you to see numerous details about your audience demographic, including the times and days that they are most active so that you can schedule your posts accordingly.

You can also utilize great social media tools such as Hubspot.com that allow you to monitor the activity of your followers and schedule posts automatically.

Step 5: Share Feed Posts on Your Story

This step may seem too simple to be true, but the results speak for themselves! With the frequency of suggested and sponsored posts appearing in one’s feed, it’s easy for static posts to get lost in the shuffle. This means your posts may not even be seen by your followers.

An easy way to address this is by sharing your posts to your story as well. This simple step only takes a couple of seconds and can drastically improve your visibility. Followers who may have missed your post in their feeds will have a chance to see it on your story and be encouraged to navigate to your profile to check out the post.
