Marketers have one of the best jobs in the world (bias? what bias?). We get to help people achieve their vision and introduce creative new ways of thinking into situations every day.

Which doesn’t mean it’s an easy job – great marketers are both strategic and intentional in their actions. If you want to follow in the footsteps of the people behind these amazing marketing campaigns, here are 4 things you should do on a daily basis.

4 Things Great Marketers Do Every Day

Know What Your Competitors are Doing

Marketers should always know that their competitors are doing. It’s always helpful to know what your up against.

With that said, remember that great marketers are not reactive: you should pay attention to what is working for your competition, but also keep in mind what is not. Monitoring your competitors’ campaigns will allow you to stay nimble, alter your marketing strategy, and differentiate your brand.

Pay Attention on Social Media

One of the perks of being a marketer is that a portion of your job comes down to old fashion cyber-stalking (in the least creepy way possible, of course!) Great marketers engage in social listening, which is when you track what people are saying about our brand on social media.

You can use social listening to gauge how your audience – and specific buyer personas – feel about your company and your brand. Social listening allows you to leverage your audiences’ opinions to your advantage, or deal with problems before they negatively impact your brand on a higher level.

Great marketers set up searches for  there brand name and the products/services that are on offer, so that they can pay attention to trends that appear on social media platforms. What are the positive things that your audience is saying? What are some common negatives that need to be dealt with? We love these tools for social listening purposes

Generate Content

Content is having a moment – or rather, content is having a major revolution, and has seized the digital marketing thrown for the foreseeable future. Which makes sense: content is a powerful marketing resource, and great marketers put heavy emphasis on making sure that they churn out high quality, relevant content for their consumers.

While content can seem intimidating, the good news is that it’s relatively easy to implement an effective content strategy. Good content can come in the form of blog posts (like the very one you’re reading now), articles, webinars or even videos.  Check out our tips on creating great content here. Take inspiration from what folks around you are talking about, and you’ll have a blossoming repertoire before you know it!

Measure and Evaluate

Marketers have a pretty great job. It’s an incredibly rewarding industry to work in and can often be creatively fulfilling. But at the end of the day, money talks – and even the most beautiful marketing campaign is a failure if it does not translate into new leads, sales, or social traffic.

That’s why great marketers always make time to measure and evaluate their successes throughout a campaign. Set up systems to measure your success, and schedule periodic check-ins with your team (or, if you’re a one-man show, with yourself) to evaluate trends that are appearing in your marketing campaign and to help you keep track of your progress.

When you conclude a project, set aside some time to look at the SWOT of the campaign: its strengths and weaknesses, as well as opportunities for future endeavors and threats that may keep you from reaching your marketing goals. Try to be objective in your evaluations, and remember that the goal is always improvement!
